The hair on your head is more than just something to be styled and combed to look good. It’s a part of the integumentary system — the outer layer of the body that also includes your skin and nails — and on average grows about 100,000 hairs on your head alone.
This hair is also responsible for protecting against UV rays and regulating body temperature, as well as affecting how you see yourself.
Losing hair can be difficult to deal with, especially as the amount of hair you lose increases. Many hair treatments promise ways to regrow or prevent further hair loss.
To get results in restoring hair, ACell® therapy offers a unique approach that provides tangible results. Let’s find out more about how this method works and what’s involved in the process.
Drs. Michael and Alister Meshkin, along with our dedicated staff at Meshkin Medical in Glendale and Newport Beach, California, are committed to improving our patients’ hair using methods that work, including ACell therapy.
Made by a regenerative medicine company and using a device that repairs tissue, it’s easy to miss how this and hair restoration are connected. But the MatriStem® Multilayer Wound Matrix device employs an epithelial basement membrane that works to promote healing in skin as well as other tissue. We use it to stimulate hair growth.
Its application makes it compatible with platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, and we often use both to stimulate cell growth necessary for healing. So when we use ACell therapy, we may also apply PRP to help the process along.
When a wound heals, it goes through four distinct stages:
When we use the MatriStem® Multilayer Wound Matrix, we give these steps a boost, and the logic is the same when we use it to help with hair growth.
The healing properties of the ACell device reactivate the hair growth cycle, making it useful for many types of hair loss, including male pattern baldness, stress, or loss from nutritional deficiency.
In a 30-minute treatment process, we start with a local anesthetic to alleviate any discomfort. Next, we target the areas where hair is thinning, and inject the ACell where needed.
We generally give PRP injections to keep a steady supply of growth factors working over the several months of treatment, but if you have difficulty with blood draws, we may skip this step.
It will take time for the treatment to do its work, but it’s possible to see results within three months. Repeating injections two to three times a year helps maintain results.
Hair loss doesn’t have to define how you see yourself. Make an appointment with us at Meshkin Medical so we can find the treatment to restore your hair — using ACell therapy and/or one of our other methods.
We serve the Los Angeles area from our Glendale clinic, and Orange County, California, from our Newport Beach clinic.
